Riding into Transformation: Karbon Bikes at NYCMTB’s Great Gobbler Event

This past Sunday, Karbon Bikes had the pleasure of participating in NYCMTB’s Great Gobbler event at Freshkills Park—a space that tells one of the most inspiring stories of transformation in New York City. Once the world’s largest landfill, Freshkills Park is now a thriving recreational and ecological hub, and we were thrilled to connect with two key figures behind this success: Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella and Freshkills Park Administrator Mark Murphy.

Our founder, Tarek Tabbara, had the opportunity to introduce them to Karbon Bikes and showcase the innovation behind our eMTBs. Both officials enthusiastically test-rode the PowerLine R, offering positive feedback about its performance and the work we do at Karbon.

The Mental Health Benefits of Mountain Biking

One of the highlights of the conversation was discussing the profound mental health benefits of mountain biking. Unlike traditional sports, mountain biking uniquely combines physical exertion with the therapeutic effects of nature. Studies have shown that time outdoors can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance focus. When paired with the thrill and challenge of mountain biking, these benefits are amplified, making it one of the most effective ways to support mental well-being. For a deeper dive into these benefits, check out our blog post: Riding High: How Mountain Biking Boosts Mental Health.

This cause is close to Borough President Fossella’s heart, as his office is actively engaged in advancing mental health initiatives across Staten Island. Learn more about these initiatives on his mental health resource page.

Borough President Fossella and Mark Murphy have been instrumental in this journey, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to enhancing the lives of Staten Island residents.
